I chose to make a brochure for the parents of college students because brochures are more informative. Parents will take the time to read the brochure because it is important to them how they enforce safe drinking for their children in college.
Samples of some brochures:
Contrast- All of these brochures have lots of contrast and color. I like the third one the best because there isn't too many colors. It stuck with a theme of light green and dark green.
Repetition- There is repetition on all of the brochures because they all have consistent font style and size throughout their brochure. The third brochure has the color green as a repetition as well.
Alignment- The second brochure needs some work with alignment. The third paragraph in the second column is not lined up straight like the other paragraphs. The 1st and 3rd brochure has great alignment.
Proximity- On each brochure we can tell things that are similar are grouped together. I like how in the first brochure each island is grouped together in its own color. It's well organized and easy to read.
Purpose-The first two brochures are about travel so the purpose would be to try to persuade people to travel to those places listed on the brochure. The third brochure is about a doctor and certain types of medicine she offers. The purpose there would be in inform future patients about the tests she offers and what to expect when coming in to.
Audience- For the travel brochures the audience would be families or couples that are thinking about going on vacation. The last brochure's audience would be future patients.
Genre-The genre for all three is a brochure
Engagement-All of the people that created each of their brochure is getting the satisfaction of more patients or more people visiting their destinations which also means they are getting more money.
My brochure-
Contrast-My brochure shows great contrast because it is simple with only a few colors of red, green, and yellow
Repetition- There is repetition in the font because it is the same style and size. The titles are also all in a bigger font size.
Alignment- Everything is lined up together so it is easy to read.
Proximity- Each grouping contains similar information that goes together nicely.
Purpose- The purpose is to inform parents ways to prevent their kids from crazy binge drinking once they go to college.
Audience-The audience is the parents of college students(incoming freshman)
Genre-The genre is a brochure
Engagement-I am getting satisfaction from helping parents feel more comfortable with sending their children to school for the first time.
Audience #2: Future employer I chose to make a letter to a future employer because it looks more professional and if it is addressed to them they will be more likely to read it rather than reading some random brochure they received in the mail.
Samples of some letters:
Contrast- The first letter shows a lot of color but it is clearly too much color. It makes the letter not look professional and distracts the reader from the letter.
Repetition-There is repetition in all three letters because all three letters stays consistent with their own font style. The third letter bolded and underlined random words in their essay which is not really consistent.
Alignment-The second letter has the best alignment because everything is lined up perfectly and easy to look at and read.
Proximity-Each letter has things that are grouped together such as one paragraph for information and another for the address and date.
Purpose-Each letter has a different purpose. The purpose of the second letter is to thank a customer for their purchases.
Audience-The audience in the first letter is to a friend.
Genre-The genre is a letter.
Engagement-The manager that wrote the second letter is hoping that the customer will come back and pay more things. They are getting a higher chance that the customer will come back.
Contrast-I decided not to do any color in this letter to make it look more professional. Repetition-I used repetition because I used to same font throughout the letter Alignment-Everything is lined up in the same column. Proximity-I have two paragraphs, one about background on the topic, the other about asking for help. Each is grouped together with things that similar. Purpose- The purpose of the letter is to ask for a work partner to create more commercials that will enforce the negatives about drinking and other ways college students can make friends. Audience-The audience of this letter is the future employer Genre-The genre is a letter. Engagement-I hope to get a working partner that will help stop underages and other dangers from college drinking
Audience #3-College students
I chose to make a satire about college drinking because if kids see something funny they will remember it more and maybe even reconsider their choses.
Samples of satires:
Contrast-Each satire has lots of great contrast with all of the color. I like how in the last satire they used to bright color for the the word courage to make it stand out.
Repetition-There is repetition in the colors on the second satire. They stuck to mostly paler colors.
Alignment-The third satire is lined up perfectly in the center of the page.
Proximity-The words that people are saying are grouped together so it is easy to read
Purpose-The purpose is to entertain and to make a point. The first satire is making a point to say that police take advantage of their job and do things that they yell at other people for doing.
Audience- The first satire's audience would be people who drive. The second satire's audience would be people looking for a job or that just graduated from college and the third satire can have a variety of different audiences.
Genre-The genre is a satire
Engagement-Creators of these satires are trying to brighten people's day by making a point but in a funny, friendly way.
My Satire:
Contrast-The party shown on TV has more colors and things going on compared to the actual college party. Repetition-Same font style and color Alignment-Both pictures and all the text is centered. Proximity-Both pictures have space in between them so one can tell they are grouped by themselves. Purpose-The purpose is the inform college students that parties are not as amazing as TV shows make them seem to be. Audience-College students Genre-Satire Engagement-I hope to make a point across and hopefully some college students can relate to this satire.
